Olympic gold medalist skier Lindsay Vonn officially said “Yes!” to P.K. Subban earlier this week when the New Jersey Devils defenseman got down on bended knee to ask for her hand in marriage. The athletic power couple have been dating for two years after meeting at the ESPY awards.

“Right off the bat, I knew he was different,” Lindsey reveals. “But I’d been married before, so I was pretty hesitant to let myself think that I could find someone that I would want to be married to again. After a few months of dating, I knew he was the one I wanted to be with, though. He makes me happy, and he’s so positive and energetic.”

Vonn, of course, was previously married to fellow U.S. Ski Team athlete Thomas Vonn from 2007 until 2013. Following that she famously dated PGA superstar Tiger Woods and NFL assistant coach Kenan Smith.

Meanwhile, Subban had been waiting for his chance to get close to Vonn. “I was obviously interested in wanting to talk to Lindsey. But at the time, she was already dating [someone else], so I couldn’t really speak to her.”

When he got his chance though, Subban made it count and now, less than two years into their relationship they’re making plans to walk down the aisle. But, how did the proposal go down?

“I got the ring and said, ‘You know what? I’m just going to do it home,’” Subban said to Vogue magazine. “Everything kind of came together on that day. Everyone says the stars aligned—well, it was actually a full moon. I was worried because I knew she would want to be dressed up and not in her pajamas, and it just so happened she had a business meeting, so she was fully dressed up.”

As for a date, the Subbans aren’t quite there yet. “We’re in such a busy time right now. We’re trying to move to New Jersey,” Lindsey says. “I just want to enjoy the moment and the engagement. We’re not in a big hurry to get married. It kind of depends on his playing schedule, and when we have time to sit down and go through it. I don’t want to stress him out because he has a big season coming.”

Whenever or wherever it happens, you can be sure that it will be a giant party full of sports celebrities. Congrats to the future Mr. and Mrs. Subban.
