Just last week we shared the heartwarming story of how Boston Bruins veteran Patrice Bergeron saved teammate Gemel Smith from the depths of depression during a tough time for the young forward.

“I made myself go to a sunken place,” Smith told Joe Smith of The Athletic in an exclusive interview. “I couldn’t sleep for a month. I felt very alone. I isolated myself from everyone because I’m a guy that keeps to myself.

After speaking with Bergeron though, Smith decided to seek out the help of renowned sports psychologist Max Offenberger. Now, Smith is back to his normal self and he credits Bergeron for putting him on the right track mentally.

It’s no surprise really though, we’ve heard nearly a dozen of these types of stories throughout Bergeron’s NHL career. It’s just the kind of guy he is. Need another example? Imagine making it to the final round of cuts in an NHL training camp. Then imagine getting cut and being told you’re not good enough… imagine the disappointment. Then imagine Bergeron himself sits down to chat with you and gives you his phone number to stay in touch. Yeah… that happened.

Check it out:

Just another example of Bergeron being a truly classy individual.
