St. Louis Blues forward Patrik Berglund will step up to represent his home country of Sweden at the World Cup of Hockey after his countrymen Rickard Rakell was rushed to hospital.

We reported on Rakell's condition over the week-end, and once it had been revealed that a transfer of hospitals had become necessary and he had been placed into an intensive care unit, that he would no longer be participating in the tournament.

While there has been no official announcement, NHL.com's Tom Gulitti is reporting that Berglund has been chosen as Rakell's replacement on Team Sweden, although it's unclear how soon he will be joining the team.

It's an unfortunate turn of events for Rakell, although for Team Sweden getting a guy like Patrik Berglund in a back up role can't hurt too bad.
