Unbeknownst to most of us there was a very high profile battle for the head coaching position of Latvia's men's national team.

According to a report from Russian freelance reporter Aivis Kalnins former Calgary Flames head coach and Jack Adams Award winner Bob Hartley has been named the team's head coach and he reportedly had to fight off a National Hockey League legend to get it.

While there were reportedly several other candidates, Patrick Roy was rumored to be the other front-runner according to Kalnins. It will be interesting to see if Roy's name comes up in connection to any other international teams as we head towards the Olympic Games in South Korea.
