The injury to Sharks captain Joe Pavelski might remain a sensitive subject with the fans of the Vegas Golden Knights, who were eliminated from the postseason after a miraculous comeback from the San Jose, fans across the league are wondering how the veteran forward is feeling after the gruesome scene.

Pavelski was cross-checked by Golden Knights center Cody Eakin and then run into by Paul Stastny, which knocked an off-balance Pavelski to the ice. He hit his head, was all bloody on the ice and had to be helped to the dressing room.

Finally some news have started to be leaked from different insiders and Kevin Kurz of The Athletic mentioned on Monday some details on Pavelski’s progress in his latest mailbag.

While Pavelski did not travel with the team to Colorado, he has been around his teammates and is lucky to have suffered a concussion and not a fractured skull. However, Kurz remained unsure that he will return in the near future. He is what he had to say about his status:

“What I do know about Pavelski is that he’s been around the team and was at the game last night. Just the fact that he’s able to be around his teammates is a positive. Pete DeBoer also indicated last week that the injury could have been much worse, like a fractured skull, so thankfully that wasn’t the case.
But I do get the sense that we’re not too close to seeing him return for a game. Often with a concussion you’ll see the player skate first and then the medical staff will wait and see how his body reacts to the physical exertion. So until we see the captain skating — and pushing himself hard — there’s no reason to believe he’s going to play in the immediate future. I’d be mildly surprised if we saw him at all in this series.”

The Sharks might be looking to stay alive not only to finally win a championship, but also to allow their captain to return and play in this postseason.

On Wednesday, Pavelski was reportedly skating for the first time since the injury on his own in San Jose. He also FaceTimed the team’s trainer to talk about his status. He also contacted his teammates after last night's win over the Avalanche.

However, it remains to be seen if Pavelski will be able to return before the end of the playoffs or if he might be officially ruled out for the rest of the series…

Let’s hope he continues to feel better.
