TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun reported that San Jose Sharks captain Joe Pavelski is visiting with other teams this week with the unrestricted free agent speaking window now open, but it seems like some clubs won’t get the chance to try and convince him to come…

Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman has revealed that Pavelski has refused to meet with a couple of teams since the veteran forward does not consider them contenders.

Both insiders are certain that Pavelski is to meet with the Dallas Stars and Tampa Bay Lightning, as both teams competed in the postseason this spring.

“Pavelski declined visits in a couple of places where he thought the teams weren’t close enough to winning. All eyes are on Dallas and Tampa Bay, although Chicago may try to convince him to visit. The Stars are determined to add scorers.”

Friedman also believes the Chicago Blackhawks might be able to convince Pavelski to come in for a meeting despite missing the postseasons the past two years. LeBrun added that the Buffalo Sabres were also interested, but might have been one of the clubs turned down by Pavelski.

While Pavelski hasn’t ruled out the possibility of returning to San Jose, he wants to keep his options open, but is hoping to play for a contending club.

The 34-year-old scored 38 goals and posted 64 points in 75 games this season. He was limited to 13 games during the playoffs due to injuries, including hand surgery and head trauma, but still managed to record four goals and nine points.
