Penguins announce monster contract signing

Six years for a relatively unproven player. Wow.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have announced that they’ve re-signed restricted free-agent defenseman Brian Dumoulin to a six-year contract agreement with an average annual salary of $4.1 million.

The 25 year-old defender was slated to meet with the team and negotiate a deal through arbitration, but his new deal puts an end to that eventuality. While Dumoulin has been a key contributor in the team’s back-to-back Stanley Cup championships the past two seasons, the six year commitment seems awfully rich. Regardless, he’ll provide the team with some cost certainly on the back end through 2023 and should join regular defense partner Kris Letang on the team’s blue line again next fall.

What do you think Pens fans? Good deal? Or too rich for your blood?
