Penguins assign veteran defenseman to the AHL

The Pittsburgh Penguins assigned defenseman Frank Corrado the the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, the team announced on Sunday. Corrado was placed on waivers on Saturday, and now that he cleared he will report to the Penguins AHL farm team. He played five games with Pittsburgh this season, without registering a point. At the AHL level, he has eight points in 19 games so far this season. 


Drafted 150th by the Vancouver Canucks in 2011, Corrado played 76 games in the NHL with the Canucks, the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Penguins, registering eight points and 40 penalty minutes. At the AHL level, the Toronto, Ontario native played 183 games, registering 64 points. 

Pittsburgh are currently seventh in the Metropolitan division with a record of 21-19-3. They are facing the Boston Bruins on Sunday night. Boston are currently second in the Atlantic division with a record of 23-10-6, and they have won their last three games. Tristan Jarry is expected to get the start for the Penguins, and he should be facing Tukka Rask. Both Brian Dumoulin and Chad Ruhwedel will be game-time decisions for the Penguins.
