Did Jarry spill the beans?

The National Hockey League has been playing coy in regards to the start date of the 2020 - 2021 regular season, but one player may have just spilled the beans on some of the league's plans for the very near future.

On Saturday Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Tristan Jarry signed a brand new deal with his team, all but assuring that he would become their goaltender of the future, and it was during a media availability following that signing that Jarry hinted at a date for the start of NHL training camps. The Penguins netminder told reporters that both he and his fellow teammates on the Penguins roster had been instructed to prepare for a training camp that would begin on November 15th, just a few short weeks following the awarding of the Stanley Cup to the Tampa Bay Lightning.

That is particularly significant because we have been hearing rumblings that the league was considering a significant delay on the 2020 - 2021 season due to their inability to fill local stadiums with their fans. However all the way back in July, when the NHL was still trying to get their return to play off the ground, the league had indicated that December 1st was their prefered start date for this upcoming season. Under that scenario training camps would have begun on the 17th of November, a date that very closely resembles the one that has just been cited by Jarry himself.

It could very well be that the league will begin training camp early and simply delay the season as necessary, but that seems unlikely given that they will be on a shortened schedule with players that have had relatively little time to rest. It also has to be said that the league may simply want players ready on that date in spite of the fact that they may choose to delay the actual start of training camps as they see fit.

If Jarry is correct about the date however, and training camps do begin on the 15th of November, it means that we could be in for more NHL hockey in the very near future.
