In case you missed it, three time Stanley Cup champion Matt Cullen officially retired from professional hockey earlier this offseason.

The 42 year old leaves the game with a respectable 266 goals and 731 points in 1515 NHL games. But… if you think you could keep the old-timer away, think again.

The Penguins announced earlier today that Cullen will join the team’s front office staff in a player development role.

Check it out:

“Matt’s knowledge of the game and understanding of our organization will make him a valuable asset moving forward,” said Penguins GM Jim Rutherford in a prepared statement. “With over 20 years in the NHL and three Stanley Cups, we are certain he will continue to have a positive influence on our players.”

“Cully was a cerebral player with great leadership skills,” said Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan in the same prepared statement. “He is a natural coach who will offer great insight to our coaching staff and to our players. We look forward to adding him to our staff.”

Welcome back to the Penguins organization, Cully.
