The Pittsburgh Penguins have rewarded one of their veteran defensemen after a big Stanley Cup Championship run.

The Penguins officially announced the signing of 27-year-old defenseman Chad Ruhwedel on Thursday, inking him to a two-year contract extension after he appeared in 34 games for them at the National Hockey League level this past season. Ruhwedel also demonstrated his value in the postseason by stepping in when called upon.

While the terms of the deal were not initially released, Sportsnet insider Chris Johnston is now reporting that Ruhwedel's new contract carries an average annual value of just $650,000, a very affordable deal for the Penguins.
