Penguins trade away star forward.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have acquired Carl Hagelin from the Anaheim Ducks.

In exchange, Pittsburgh sends Anaheim forward David Perron and defenseman Adam Clendening.

Perron was on pace for the worst offensive season of his career and Clendening, who was acquired in the Brendan Sutter trade, is still looking to establish himself in the NHL.

The Penguins might have the advantage is that trade, because Carl Hagelin can play different roles on the ice, compared to Perron who is only good if he plays in the top six forwards. Hagelin doesn't come cheap though, he signed a 4 year contract extension worth $16million when he arrived in Anaheim and has been underachieving for the most part this season.

Head coach Mike Sullivan was a reason why Carl Hagelin found success in New York, when he was an assistant coach with the New York Rangers.

Anaheim frees some space on their salary cap and could benefit from an offensive threat in Perron, if and when he decides to bring his A-game to the rink. Unfortunately for him, he couldn't built a good relationship with neither of Pittsburgh's top centermen, Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin.
