Pens are in the market for a backup goalie

The market may be scarce for a goaltender lately, but the Pittsburgh Penguins do not have a choice. The trade chatter is starting to pick up even more steam after the Pens announced Matt Murray is week-to-week with a lower-body injury on Tuesday.

The 23-year-old was injured in Monday’s game against the Philadelphia Flyers when Jakub Voracek collided with Murray, sending the two-time Stanley Cup winner’s leg awkwardly into the post.

Murray’s injury and yesterday’s reports claiming the Pens are shopping defenseman Ian Cole has prompted some speculation they could be in the market for an established backup goalie.

Tristan Jarry stepped in for Murray to finish off the win. Jarry will now presumably step into the starting role. He is 2-0-2 this season with a 2.83 goals against average and a .907 save percentage.

Andrew Hammond of the Colorado Avalanche and Petr Mrazek of the Detroit Red Wings were once said to be on the market.

Would you like the Pens to chase one of them?
