It took just four games for the Pittsburgh Penguins to be eliminated and sent home in the postseason as the New York Islanders came in and swept through.

It took 40 weeks for Nick Bjugstad’s daughter to come to life, however, her father wasn’t around when she was born.

He was too busy getting eliminated in heartbreaking fashion in Pittsburgh as the Isles took Game 4 3-1 and shook hands with the losing team.

Bjugstad became a father that night in what is one of the happiest moments of his life. His wife Jackie gave birth to their daughter as she was induced right before Game 4.

The forward admitted during the dressing room clean out on Thursday that he ran out of the room quickly that night, not because he couldn’t handle the loss, but because he wanted to be with his wife and kid.

“Yeah, it was crazy. Obviously it was a disappointment in the game but I had to get out of the locker room pretty quickly. She was induced before the game so I knew what was going on…
“It wasn’t like I found out during or after (the game). It was just crazy, it ended up happening that next morning so yeah, it was the coolest moment of my life. She’s happy and she is healthy and mom is healthy as well.”

This is the definition of a bittersweet moment…

We are sure his daughter will be able to make him forget about the loss - or the sleepless nights will.
