At long last the Detroit Red Wings will head into a game this evening without having lost their previous one. Last Tuesday, the Wings put an end to an 8 game losing streak with a well-earned triumph over the Edmonton Oilers.

Tonight, the Red Wings will face off against the Hurricanes in Carolina. They will hope to win a second game in a row to continue building confidence and to start compensating for the 16 points that they lost during their terrible run of form.

There is good news on the injury front for the Wings as veteran Justin Abdelkader should be back in the lineup this evening. Recent acquisition Brendan Perlini will also suit up tonight as he was a healthy scratch for the Wings' last game. It will be Perlini's first game with Detroit and coach Blashill will certainly look for him to generate some offense.

Dylan Larkin who has played very well in the last few games should be part of the team that faces the Hurricanes tonight despite the uncertainty concerning his health.

On defense, Dennis Cholowski should be left aside as Madison Bowey reintegrates the lineup. Forward Givani Smith worked hard every shift in his stint with the Wings, but Abdelkader being healthy means that he was reassigned to Grand Rapids.

So far this season, Blashill had split the starts evenly between his two netminders, but after earning the long-awaited win on Tuesday, Jimmy Howard should get another opportunity in front of the net. Jonathan Bernier will back him up.

Here is Detroit's projected lineup for tonight's game against the Hurricanes according to NHL.com correspondent Kurt Dusterberg:

Forwards:

Tyler Bertuzzi - Dylan Larkin - Darren Helm

Andreas Athanasiou - Valtteri Filppula - Anthony Mantha

Brendan Perlini - Frans Nielsen - Taro Hirose

Justin Abdelkader - Jacob De La Rose - Adam Erne

Defensemen:

Patrik Nemeth - Filip Hronek

Mike Green - Joe Hicketts

Trevor Daley - Madison Bowey

Goaltenders:

Jimmy Howard

Jonathan Bernier

Christoffer Ehn, Alex Biega and Dennis Cholowski are set to be healthy scratches for this evenings match. Luke Glendening and Dany DeKeyser are still out with injuries.

The Carolina team will feature sophomore Andrei Svechnikov who scored one of the most incredible goals in the history of the game earlier this week by pulling off the "Michigan move" in an NHL game. He will definitely be one to watch for the Wings as he has scored 4 goals in his last 2 games.

The Red Wings will have to show character to beat the young and talented Hurricanes squad, especially their deep defensive unit.
