Perry immediately linked to Oilers following contract buyout!

Quite the twist in this story!

Earlier on Wednesday, the Anaheim Ducks bought out the remaining two years of Corey Perry’s contract, making the 34-year-old winger an unrestricted free agent.

It did not take long for him to be linked to rumours as Edmonton Oilers insider Ryan Rishaug of TSN has already reported the interest of the Canadian team towards the four-time All-Star player.

Perry could not have been placed on waivers due to his no-movement clause. He had two years left on his deal with a cap hit of $8.6 million. An hour following the buyout, Rishaug came out with the speculation that links Perry to the Oilers.

It isn’t the first time Perry has been linked to Edmonton, which seems to make people believe GM Ken Holland is quite serious about it.

Last week, as the Ducks were attempting to trade Perry to prevent having to buy him out, TSN’s Darren Dreger reported that the veteran forward could be added to the Oilers’ roster to help out captain Connor McDavid on the leadership side.

It will all come down to money.

Last season, Perry tallied just 10 points in 31 games played with the Ducks. He is coming off meniscus and MCL injuries and missed the first five months of the season after recovering from a knee injury. A change of scenery could certainly be beneficial.
