Pittsburgh Penguins forward Phil Kessel reached an important milestone in his team 5-2 win against the New York Rangers on Sunday afternoon. Kessel registered the 700th point of his career when he scored to put the Penguins up 3-2 in the second period. By doing so, he became the 27th US-born player to reach 700 career points, and only the 10th to do it by the age of 30.

Kessel also passed Tony Amonte and tied Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane for the second most consecutive 20-goal seasons by a US-born player ever with his 10th consecutive 20-goal season. Keith Tkachuk still owns the record for the most consecutive-20 goal seasons by a US-born player with 12.

Drafted fifth overall by the Boston Bruins in 2006, the 30-year old forward scored 316 goals and 385 assists for a total of 701 points in 878 games played in the NHL with the Bruins, the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Penguins. Pittsburgh acquired him via trade from the Leafs in 2015. This season, the American forward has 20 goals and 32 assists for a total of 52 points in 46 games played. Kessel won two Stanley Cups with the Penguins (2016,2017)

The Penguins are currently fourth in the Metropolitan division with a record of 24-19-3. They have won their last four games. Pittsburgh will play their next game against the Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday.
