PK Subban the next Preds captain?
Keystone Press

With the news earlier today of Nashville Predators captain Mike Fisher’s official retirement the defending Western Conference Champions sit without a captain for 2017-18 and beyond. While Fisher did an admirable job in his one year as captain after taking over for Shea Weber, doesn’t it make sense for Subban, the man who was traded for former captain Weber, to take over the mantle as team captain?

Of course, there are other deserving candidates to take over as team leader. Among the most obvious are Roman Josi and Ryan Johansen. Both players are equally, if not more, important to the team’s success as Subban. But in PK Subban, the Predators have a special player and indeed a special leader.

While some many question Subban’s flair for the dramatic, there’s no denying the passion, energy and commitment that he brings to the game. That passion, energy and commitment is apparent to his teammates and can be a tremendously motivating factor. Whether it’s enough for the team’s coaching and management staff to anoint him as the team’s next captain remains to be seen. But regardless of who’s wearing the “C” in Nashville, there’s no denying that the Preds are Subban’s team.

What do you think? Is PK Subban ready to be captain?
