There was a rather crazy incident in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga earlier today and unfortunately it's the kind of incident that fans love, and league's hate.

The Schwennigen Wild Wings were facing off against the Nuremberg Ice Tigers when things between the two sides got rather heated, resulting in some rather significant tensions on the ice. The officials on the ice were doing their best to get things under control by escorting several players to the penalty box and seemingly signaling as if they were going to eject some others when Stefano Giliati of the Wild Wings crossed a line that a player should never step over.

The 31 year old former member of the Toronto Marlies came charging out of the penalty box with bad intentions and immediately went after 25 year old former London Knights center Dane Fox. To Fox's credit here he didn't seem the least bit phased by the sudden and unexpected attack from Giliati and even managed to get his gloves off before the Wild Wings' winger came charging at him. Unfortunately fans were not treated to much of a fight as Giliati appeared to be much more interested in tackling Fox to the ice than he did in exchanging punches with the man.

In spite of the fact that Giliati had clearly stepped over the line and in spite of the fact that he ruined what could have been a pretty good scrap the audience in attendance absolutely loved the entire thing and cheers could be heard roaring throughout the building. Clearly inspired by those gears Giliati could be seen hyping up the crowd as he was escorted off the ice by the officials and shoved towards the Wild Wings locker room.

After getting back up to his feet Fox seemed none too happy about the fact that he has just been wrestled to the ground and in fact appeared to be skating around the ice looking for another challenger to step into Giliati's spot but none was forthcoming. Needless to say his body language at the end of the clip indicates that he was none to pleased by the incident and when you add to that the fact that his team lost 2 - 0 this one may be far from over.

It will be interesting to see what repercussions will come of this for Giliati as well, both from the league and possibly even from a legal stand point.
