Red Wings fans have reason to be a little worried this afternoon, after one of their key defensemen appears to have re-injured himself.

Detroit Red Wings defenseman Niklas Kronwall left Saturday's game against the New York Rangers after being sandwiched between two teammates and falling awkwardly.

Kronwall was helped off the ice and left the game after getting stuck goaltender Petr Mrazek and forward Andreas Athanasiou. He falls backward and appears to strain his knee in the process.

The team announced he would not return to the game.

Kronwall has already missed 15 games with a knee injury earlier this season, and this might be a case of him re-injuring that older ailment.

The 35-year old has recorded 3 goals and 17 assists in 52 games this season, while leading the Red Wings in ice time, averaging 22:41.
