Alex Chiasson’s days in Ottawa appear to be coming to an end. The 25-year-old is a restricted free agent, but Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun suggested the forward could be dealt prior to the NHL draft in Buffalo next month.

According to a report by Dhiren Mahiban of The Hockey News, Chiassion's agent, Kent Hughes, confirmed the 25-year-old is expected to be dealt ahead of June's draft.

The Montreal native’s one-year, $1.2 million contract, which was awarded by an arbitrator last summer, is set to expire in July.

“I think that’s a potential scenario, but I don’t know if you ever really know if anything materializes until it happens,” Hughes said. “But yeah, (a trade) wouldn’t surprise me.

“I think at the end of the day, for a lack of a better term, it’s the lack of a successful marriage, I guess. You get to a point where you either decide you’re going to say to an organization, ‘move on’ or you’re going to continue to try, but as you continue to do that, your asset continues to diminish in value.”

Chiasson registered eight goals and six assists in 77 games with Ottawa this past season, his second with the Senators. Originally a second-round selection of the Dallas Stars in 2009, Chiasson was dealt to the Senators in the trade for Jason Spezza in July 2014.

In 239 games split between the Stars and Senators, Chiasson has scored 38 goals and 44 assists to go along with 150 penalty minutes.
