Player received death threats after being blamed for McDavid's injury.

Hockey fans love their favorite teams star players with a passion. However, some fans' passion turns to extreme anger and, in some cases fans take that passion too far.

Philadelphia Flyers' defenseman Brandon Manning understands that all to well, as he was the victim of death threats after a collision between himself and Edmonton Oilers' star rookie Connor McDavid in November.

The collision left McDavid with an injured clavicle, and the Oilers' star was forced out of action long-term.

“There was stuff on Twitter and everything, all kinds of threats,” Manning said, per Philly.com.

“Canadian fans are passionate, and I don’t think it would be any different with Flyers fans if they saw that one of our guys went down like that. So it wasn’t a big deal to me.”

When reflecting on the play, Manning believes that the reason that the collision occurred was because McDavid simply lost an edge while in a foot race for the loose puck.

“He just went outside on me. I pivoted to take him wide, and [Michael Del Zotto] came across to try to hit him,” added Manning. “Anybody who watches the replay can see [McDavid] clearly catches an edge before anybody even touches him. He actually brought me down with him. I fell because he fell.”

Manning hopes to suit up tonight to face McDavid for the first time since the incident.
