Steve Ott is a little lighter in the wallet today after a very questionable play on his part.

The NHL's Department of Player Safety announced that the Detroit Red Wings' forward has been fined $2,222 for delivering a spear to the gut of Boston Bruins' defenseman Zdeno Chara on Saturday night.

The fine is the maximum amount allowed under the current CBA. 

Ott has a tendency to play the game on the edge, which sometimes lands him in trouble with the NHL. During the 2007-08 season, Ott was suspended by the NHL for three games for a hit to the head of Jordan Leopold. He was suspended again for one game during the 2008-09 season for an eye-gouging incident with Travis Moen, but claimed the eye-gouge was accidental.
