Player set for return following PED suspension.

Shawn Horcoff is preparing to get back to hockey.

The Anaheim Ducks' forward is nearly finished serving his 20-game suspension for violating the terms of the NHL’s performance-enhancing substances program. He practiced on Tuesday and will be eligible to play as of March 11.

Horcoff was found to have taken an unspecified substance to deal with a hand injury in November. He explained he didn’t know the treatment was banned by the NHL, but accepted responsibility for the mistake. He expressed regret for the error and apologized to the fans and his team.

"Although I was unaware that this treatment was not permitted under NHL rules, that is no excuse whatsoever. I should have done my research and I should have checked with the NHL/NHLPA Performance Enhancing Substances Program's doctors. I accept full responsibility for my actions, and I am sorry.

"Throughout my entire career, I have felt genuinely blessed and honoured to play the great game of hockey, and I regret the impact that this may have on my team and our fans.

"I look forward to the day I return to the ice for the playoff push."

Horcoff has six goals and four assists in 45 games during his first season with the Ducks. He will lose nearly $360,000 in salary during the suspension.

Anaheim has been on a roll since Horcoff was suspended, going 13-1-1 with an eight-game winning streak.
