Player thought he was going to die after one of the most vicious slashes we've ever seen.

There have been a lot of fans upset about the perceived "wussification" of hockey over recent years, and while I would consider myself among those who would like to see the game keep it's violent edge, this kind of play has no place in the sport.

While a headline from the LHBBF wouldn't normally make the news cycle, a vicious assault that took place last Friday night during the playoffs for that league has now been getting widespread media coverage, and for good reason. René-Dave Pelchat of the Saint-Joseph Justiciers, says he feels lucky to be alive and lucky not to be paralyzed after taking one of the most vicious slashes we've ever seen in a hockey game directly to the head.

Pelchat said he felt completely numb after he took the blow to the head, and once you see the video you'll have no trouble understanding why. Pelchat's father was in the stands and he experienced an entirely different kind of horror, fearing the worst had just happened to his son.

The man who committed the vicious attack Louis-Philippe Carrier of the Bellechasse Éperviers is lucky he wasn't arrested on the spot, and should never be allowed to set foot on the ice again.
