Everyone got excited on Tuesday when NHL commissioner Gary Bettman announced the league is planning a 24-team Return to Play format.

Of course, media members and fans had loads of questions to ask Bettman and Deputy commissioner Bill Daly, who were made available to answer them later that evening.

Many questions revolved around what would be done to ensure players do not get sick and how the league would deal with getting everyone tested for COVID-19.

Bettman explained that they’re looking at needing 25,000 to 30,000 tests that will cost millions of dollars to purchase and process. But that their medical experts say acquiring that many will be doable by July.

On top of that, Daly added that every player will need to be tested “every evening” once games resume.

That’s probably one of the many reasons why hub cities have yet to be announced. The list of possibilities include Chicago, Columbus, Dallas, Edmonton, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Pittsburgh, Toronto and Vancouver. However, the league needs to make sure hub cities have testing available for players and low numbers of COVID-19 cases.
