We know it; hockey is fast, there are hits and bumps and bruises, but this one hit from last night that will just make you cringe.

The Dallas Stars and Calgary Flames faced off on Wednesday night and one dangerous hit took place during the intense game in the Saddledome.

Stars defenseman Roman Polak is robust and when he tried to get Elias Lindholm away from his goalie’s net, he might have gone a little too hard.

As you will see if the videos below, Polak drilled the poor forward into the boards and Lindhold appears to hit it with his neck and head first. However, the review showed that the hit was shoulder to shoulder, so there was no penalty on the play.

While we might not be able to blame Polak for his strength and speed on the play - and Lindholm looked to have somewhat lost his balance  - it sure is scary to see these types of collision. You never know if the neck will crack upon impact!

Lindholm was hurting on the Flames’ bench after the hit, however, he was back on the ice on the shift later and didn’t seem worry about Polak or the boards.

As noted by team insider Wes Gilbertson of Postmedia, “Lindholm didn’t play that first shift back like a guy worried about anything. Didn’t shy away from a couple of board battles with Polak. Good to see for Flames.”

He must know he was lucky on that one! Polak is a heavy nasty guy and this hit could have taken a turn for the worse!
