Dallas Stars defenseman Roman Polak revealed some stunning details about the scary injury he suffered at the start of the 2019-20 season.

As you may remember, Polak was stretchered off the ice in the second period of the first game of the season versus the Boston Bruins after going headfirst into the boards and everyone in the rink was worried sick.

Polak was chasing Bruins forward Chris Wagner into the corner and simply took an awkward fall into the boards while attempting to stop. After the crash, he didn’t move…

Polak had to be taken to the hospital, where it was revealed he had full use of his extremities. It was later confirmed that Polak in fact suffered a fractured sternum.

He has been out since and is finally approaching a return to action. On Friday, he told reporters what was going through his mind - and body - as he laid motionless on the ice after the scary fall.

“I was choking, it was like an elephant was sitting on my chest. I couldn’t breathe. I couldn’t move. I couldn’t do anything. … I thought I was going to shit myself if I cough or something.”

Polak is expected to rejoin the lineup at some point during the Stars’ upcoming four-game road trip.

The 33-year-old blue liner, who tallied nine points in 77 games last campaign, is expected to slot into a bottom-four role for the Stars as soon as he can.
