With the return of goaltender Brian Elliot to the St. Louis Blues line up and the stellar performance of Jake Allen it seems St. Louis has one too many goalies. As a result many have started to wonder what's next for Martin Brodeur, here are some potential landing spots. Detroit Red Wings: The Red Wings just lost their starter Jimmy Howard, and earlier this season Junas Gustavsson went down to injury, so Detroit at first glance would seem to make sense. That is except for the fact that young Petr Mrazek has used every opportunity he's been given to demonstrate he's capable of handling the starters role in Hockey Town. Mrazek is 8-8-1 in his Red Wings career, with a .921 save percentage, compare those to Brodeurs numbers which we will list below, and although Detroit could be a possibility it seems unlikely.   Minnesota Wild:The Wild are desperate, it's one of the worst kept secrets in the league, there have been multiple reports suggesting that Minessota is talking to Carolina and Buffalo about the availability of their goaltenders. Niklas Backstrom and Darcy Kuemper have the lowest combined 5 on 5 save percentage in the league, Kuemper also seems like a young goaltender who could use some mentoring in order to help improve his confidence after he got off to a near record setting start to the season. Some would argue that Backstrom is already that veteran presence, however I think we've seen enough from Backstrom to suggest that he's just about done.   The Philadelphia Flyers: Another team that just saw their starting goaltender go down, albeit only for the next two weeks according to today's reports. The Flyers already have Emery as a back up but it just hasn't worked in Philly, and the Flyers are desperate to find a way to reignite their club. However any die hard Flyers fan knows that the last thing the team wants is to sign another aging player who is on the downside of his career. Philly seems like the least likely of the three.   The real question is does Brodeur have enough left to make him an enticing piece for any team? In 7 games with the Blues this season Brodeur has a GAA of 2.87 and a save percentage of .899 not exactly stellar numbers. While some teams may be willing to take a stab at him because of the intangibles he could bring to the locker room, we don;t believe any team outside of the Wild would take serious look at him. However we've been wrong before.   Image courtesy: (Mark Zaleski/The Associated Press)
