Question regarding veteran forwards' NHL future begin to surface.
Keystone Press.

There are question starting to arise about the future of one National Hockey League veteran.

Whille there have not been any kind of official reports nor has there been any indication from the player himself that he intends to call an end to his career, there is now open speculation when it comes to Shawn Horcoff and whether or not his NHL career is at an end, whether he likes it or not.

In a recent report Oilers insider Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal seemed to indicate that he believes retirement for Horcoff may be a possibility pointing to both this advanced age (38 in September) as well as the fact that the soon to be 38 year-old has yet to be signed.

Horcoff, a former Oiler, appeared in just 59 games for the Anaheim Ducks last season and his production also saw a significant decline with the Ducks, although to be fair that team struggled at times offensively as a whole last season. To make matters worse for Horcoff he has a history when it comes to performance enhancing drugs, and any decline will be viewed in that context and could immediately turn off many teams to the idea of signing him.

This is only one man's speculation thus far, but it's a man who has his finger on the pulse of players who pass through that hockey market, now only time will tell if he's right.
