Rangers make significant changes to lineup, reinsert Staal

The New York Rangers were crushed by the Ottawa Senators on Monday night and it has prompted head coach David Quinn to make significant changes to his lineup.

In Monday’s 6-2 loss to the Sens, Quinn had stuck with the same lineup for the third straight game, which meant defenseman Marc Staal, an alternate captain and the team’s second-longest-tenured player, was a healthy scratch for the third straight game.

However, now Staal is back and will face the Detroit Red Wings tonight. Quinn confirmed that Staal and forward Greg McKegg will slot back into the lineup as Lias Andersson and Ryan Lindgren will be out. Herink Lundqvist will get the start.

Staal, who was the Rangers’ first-round pick in 2005, was scratched for the first time in his career last Tuesday as 21-year-old rookie Lindgren was inserted against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Lindgren collected an assist that night as the Rangers beat the Lightning, 4-1, and played well in his first two games, posting a plus-2 rating in two wins.
