The New York Rangers made it clear last season that they were entering a rebuilding phase in order to become true Cup contenders for years to come. However, patience may be running thin for a guy like veteran star goalie Henrik Lundqvist and the Blue Shirts could be willing to speed things up with a blockbuster summer move.

According to Larry Brooks of the New York Post, the Rangers could attempt to accelerate their rebuild by pursuing Columbus’ Artemi Panarin via free agency or Pittsburgh’s Evgeni Malkin via trade.

As he focused on acquiring Geno from the Penguins, Brooks points out how Pittsburgh needs to shed salary but believes their general manager Jim Rutherford will only be convinced to pull such a bold move if he gets a prime young asset or two in return.

And so Brooks comes out with this perfect pitch: “a Ryan Strome, a Jimmy Vesey, a Ryan Lindgren; a Yegor Rykov; a Pavel Buchnevich?”

While Brooks is just spitballing here and it feels like this will get fans talking and who knows maybe the two teams as well…

What do you think of this bold offer?
