The New York Rangers are set to watch one of their young prospects get his first taste of the National Hockey League.

A report from Mike Halford of NBC Sports has revealed that 22-year-old forewrd Cristoval Nieves will be making his NHL debut when the Rangers take on the Vancouver Canucks.

It's a huge opportunity for Nieves, one created for him thank in large part due to the injuries of both Chris Kreider as well as Pavel Buchnevich who will both be out of the line up this evening as a result.

Nieves was drafted by the Rangers in the second round of the 2012 draft and spent the last four years of his career playing for the University of Michigan where he demonstrated a gradual improvement year in and year out, before getting his first pro-hockey experience in a short stint in the American Hockey League last season.

In 13 games with the Hartford Wolf Pack this season he has one goal and 5 assists, and while his opportunities will be limited as he is expected to play in a fourth line role, he will be looking to continue that production at the NHL level.
