Rangers’ Shattenkirk opens up about his new team

It was the worst kept secret in hockey. While Kevin Shattenkirk flirted with offers from across the NHL on the opening day of free-agency, he ultimately decided to sign with the team that he’d be linked to from the start, his hometown New York Rangers.

Three weeks later, Shattenkirk is finally opening up about the thought process and the steps that led him to signing in the big apple.

Check it out:

Among the highlights of the press conference was Shattenkirk really opening up about his fondness for the Rangers going back to childhood. “I really appreciate how great of a sports town it really is… New York seems to be exremely loyal and that’s what drives us as players.”

The best part of being a Ranger so far? Has to be the free grub. “If someone finds out that you’re at a restaurant they’ll want to come up to you and talk to you or maybe throw you a free appetizer,” he said with a smile. “It really is very cool.”
