Really stupid penalty leads to PPG for opponent.

What was he thinking??

Steve Ott has been known to be an intense player who can mix it up but at times can lose his head.

Tonight he had one of those brain farts. He took an extremely dumb penalty while his team, the Detroit Red Wings was already short handed. A little earlier in the period, Andrew Shaw of the Montreal Canadiens hit Justin Abdelkader in the back into the boards and seem to be injured on the play. Shaw received a penalty on the play and Detroit was unable to score. While the Habs were on a power play a little later in the period, Ott who is a decent penalty killer was on and so was Shaw. Ott went after Shaw, grabbing him by the shirt in an effort to get him to drop the gloves. Shaw wanted nothing to do with Ott and ended up drawing a penalty. Then off the faceoff, the puck was passed over to Shea Weber who blasted it home to make it 3-0 Montreal.

I think its safe to say not many of his teammates were impressed with his penalty, his expression in the box after the 5 on 3 goal made it clear he was not impressed. Lucky for him he still had to stay in the box to finish his penalty, because he most likely got an earful from his coach when he got back to the bench.

Of all of the stupid penalties you can take, that one ranks up there.
