The Chicago Blackhawks suffered an embarrassing loss against the St. Louis Blues during last nights’ season opener.

Within the second period alone the Blackhawks let in two power play goals and were out shot by the Blues 15-3. Three other goals were scored by St. Louis all within the third period, two of them were empty netters.

The penalty kill for the Blackhawks barely stood a chance as two of the goals scored were during a 5 on 3 and the Blues scored a third power play goal during the third period.

The bottom lines did not get much ice time due to the fact that they consisted mostly of young players. This lack of balance put more pressure on the top two lines who were not having a great night even off the PK.

Corey Crawford was pulled out of the net late in the third which led to two empty net goals for the Blues. One goal was caused by a pass from Brent Seabrook towards Patrick Kane that didn’t connect and made its way into the empty net.

The first goal of the season for the Blackhawks goes to Richard Panik who picked up a loose puck in front of the net to put in a power play goal.

The second and last goal of the night for Chicago was Ryan Hartman’s first career goal in the NHL as he received a pass from Tyler Motte in front of the net for a quick shot on goal.

Final score of the night was 5-2 for the St. Louis Blues.
