If the preseason schedule has shown Detroit Red Wings fans anything, it’s that the team is looking to become competitive as soon as it possibly can. In a 6-3 routing against the Chicago Balckhawks on Sunday evening, many young players sought to make an impression before training camp concludes at the end of this week.

Martin Frk (1G, 1A), Anthony Mantha (1G), and Andreas Athanasiou (1G, 1A) each did their very best to earn themselves a permanent spot on Detroit’s roster, while 23-year-old defenseman Ryan Sproul had 2 assists.

While the Red Wings were not facing the same Blackhawks team that they’ll match up against during the upcoming regular season, it was certainly the kind of statement win required to boost some of the prospects’ confidence. Unfortunately, certain veterans did not necessarily play up to their own standards. Goaltender Petr Mrazek, for instance, made his preseason debut yet allowed 3 goals on 14 shots in his first game since representing Team Czech Republic at the World Cup of Hockey in Toronto.

However, Dylan Larkin and Danny DeKeyser each added a tally, with the former earning himself first star honours.

The Red Wings will look to repeat on an impressive performance tomorrow when they travel to Chicago to once again take on the Hawks.

More on this soon.
