Recap: Sens dominate Leafs in first pre-season tilt

With sky-high expectations in the city of Toronto for the Toronto Maple Leafs this season, fans were expecting something better than what the team offered up last night. In their first exhibition game of the eight game preseason schedule the Leafs were thoroughly trounced by the Ottawa Senators, earning a 6-2 loss. 

This start off bad for the Leafs and got progressively worse as the game went on. While there were two bright spots with Auston Matthews’ and William Nylanders’ goals, there wasn’t much else to celebrate for Leafs fans.  If you’re a Sens fan though… this game was a doozie. 

The Sens were led by Mike Hoffman, who had two beautiful goals on the evening:


And if that wasn’t enough, check out this beauty where Hoffman throws his stick up into the air in frustration only to have the rebound find him for another chance. This time he buries it:


Fortunately for the Leafs, the two teams get back at it today with the Senators visiting Toronto this time. Can we expect a more even tilt this time around? Stay tuned.
