Red Wings add former NHL head coach to their coaching staff.
Keystone Press.

The Detroit Red Wings have found the final piece of their coaching puzzle, and I must say this feels like a really solid move from the organization.

While the man hired to fill the Red Wings vacant assistant coaching position, John Torchetti, may not be a household name he was very impressive during his brief tenure as a National Hockey League head coach.

Torchetti was tasked with taking over the Minnesota Wild after the organization made the decision to fire Mike Yeo , and he did a magnificent job, turning a team that looked like an unmitigated disaster into a playoff contender after an incredible run to even make it into the postseason.

Despite Torchetti's amazing performance he was replaced when the Wild went for the big name signing when they acquired head coach Bruce Boudreau, but the Wild's loss may turn out to be a huge gain for the Detroit Red Wings who appear to have made a very shrewd move here.
