It was just a few short months ago that it appeared forward Anthony Mantha had become a major disappointment to those within the Red Wings organization with many including general manager Ken Holland making harsh assessments of the young man's capabilities.

For those with a short memory here's how Holland described last April as per the Detroit News.

“Anthony Mantha was a spare part in the (AHL) Calder Cup playoffs a year ago. Why does anyone think he is going to be the answer in Detroit?”

Mantha may now have turned a corner however, as he and forward Dylan Larkin both earning praise from their head coach Jaff Blashill. Blashill even commented on the physical development Mantha had made over the summer.

"I soon as I saw him I thought wow he's definitely put the work in so that's a great thing," said Blashill as per the Detroit Free Press.

Asked if there was any concern the extra weight could hinder Mantha, Blashill quickly shot that down.

"I think he's as fluid as he was but he's got more body mass and he's just as quick and fast. "

It seems overall like the Red Wings head coach is far more pleased with his young forward than management was prior to the summer.

"He's had a good four days."
