On Tuesday afternoon, the Detroit Red Wings recalled defenseman Dylan McIlrath from the Grand Rapids Griffins.

The team has realized that it needs some capable defending and the former first-round pick has played well with his time with the Griffins since being acquired in the trade that sent Thomas Vanek to Florida.

On top of that, star player Dylan Larkin was involved in a fight after he took a shoulder to the head from Predators defenseman Ryan Ellis and immediately began scrapping.

While many had hoped the fight would spark the Wings to get back in the game, the Preds went on to add another goal two minutes later to take a 5-1 lead into the second break, before going on to win 6-1.

Now McIlrath’s presence on the ice might add a little grit and size to the Wings, who will look to get out of this funk. Maybe more fighting majors will come out of this...
