Red Wings fans are in for a major and very rare treat.

On a bit of a personal note, back in late 2014 we published a series of reports that appeared to signal the beginning of the end for Detroit Red Wing and National Hockey Legend Gordie "Mr. Hockey" Howe, I don't think I've ever been so happy to be wrong. Despite the fact that the Howe family had prepared a eulogy after a stroke made it seem as if Howe would not recover, he demonstrated the kind of toughness that made him beloved by fans, and recovered.

Now Howe, after a series of stem cell treatments performed outside of the country, is in terrific health by comparison, so much so that according to a report from Helen St. James of the Detroit Free Press, the Howe family will be bring him to Joe Louis Arena on Monday to watch the Red Wings take on the Buffalo Sabres.

It's a rare treat for Red Wings fans and with the team currently fighting for the playoff lives, it could provide a terrific source of inspiration for the Red Wings roster to have a former great in their midst on Monday night. For most it will simply be a joyous occasion, one that will be just one more testament to the toughness of the Red Wings legend.
