A large portion of the Red Wings fan base was disappointed with the team's regular season, and even more were disappointed with the Red Wings postseason performance. That fan base will likely be comforted bu the knowledge that some of the team's key players are equally unhappy with the end result of this year's effort, and have vowed to improve next season.

“I want to score goals, obviously,” said Gustav Nyquist as per the Detroit Free Press. “That’s what I’m supposed to do out there, along with other things. But goal scoring is a big thing, for sure.

“Wasn’t able to do that enough this year. That’s disappointing. Disappointed that I haven’t been able to do that this year. I’m just going to have to have a real good summer and work hard, get stronger, as always. I think there’s always room for improvement on that side in the summers. Come back real motivated to have a good season.”

When asked about what he believes the Red Wings could have improved, Nyquist said there were many factors, but pointed specifically to the line shuffling from head coach Jeff Blashill as a potential issue.

“Sometimes you hit the right combinations, but maybe we didn’t find the perfect ones this year,” Nyquist said of the line shuffling.

To be clear, Nyquist was not critical of Blashill himself, and in fact appeared to endorse the coach stating he was very pleased under his leadership.

"Real happy with Blash here. He’s a good coach. I like him. Nothing but good things to say.”
