Fans of the Detroit Red Wings will likely be happy to hear about this.

Detroit Red Wings general manager Ken Holland appeared to hint at a trade he would like to make this offseason according to a recent report from Helen St. James of the Detroit Free Press.

According to St. James Holland admitted that trading veteran goaltender Jimmy Howard, who is clearly no longer in Detroit's long-term plans, “might be good for the organization.” For now it appears that Petr Mrazek is at least the man in the short term, and the Wings also have Jared Coreau in the minors, who many believe is the long-term future for Detroit in goal, making Howard expendable.

Holland's motivation for trading Howard is clear, he carries one of the larger cap hits on the team and may not even earn the starting job next season, whether or not he retains salary in such a deal, and what he gets in return, will likely impact how fans view this trade.
