The Detroit Red Wings were involved in what had to be considered a must win game for both teams, between the Wings and the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday night, and they did not walk away with the victory.

The Red Wings began the night with one of their worst first periods of the season, allowing the Flyers to out-shoot them 23 to 3 over the opening frame, and unsurprisingly they went into the locker room down two goals as a result. After the game the Wings head coach put the burden of the blame on his players, and after that opening period it's hard to disagree with him.

"The first five minutes we were good," said Blashill as per the Detroit Free Press. There was nothing wrong with us until we got scored on. Once we got scored on, we got on our heels way too easy."

"We didn't show the resilience that you need to show after getting scored on. Our d-corps has to be better. We had unforced errors for nothing."

It's now going to be a tough road for the Red Wings, they are just a single point ahead of Philadelphia, and the Flyers have two games in hand, on top of being one of the hottest teams in the NHL at the moment.
