Red Wings headed for arbitration battle with their starting goaltender.

The Detroit Red Wings were able to get a deal done today after goaltender Jared Coreau had filed for arbitration earlier in the week, avoiding the process with the young prospect, but it looks like they are headed for a similar battle with another one of their goalies.

According to a report from Red Wings insider Ansar Khan of mlive.com, the Red Wings themselves have filed for salary arbitration in this case, to help reach an agreement with goaltender Petr Mrazek.

Mrazek did not file for arbitration, forcing the team to do so gives him to choose the length of his contract, presumably he will be looking for a 2 year deal. While there have been no official reports regarding the salary negotiations, it's believed that Mrazek is looking for something in the neighborhood of $5 million average annual value, while the Red Wings are somewhere in the $3.5 million to $4 million range.

Khan also noted that both sides will continue negotiations in the hopes of reaching a deal prior to the arbitration hearing.
