The Detroit Red Wings didn’t exactly get the result that they wanted earlier this week against the New York Islanders. An embarrassing 8-2 setback combined with yanking goaltender Jimmy Howard less than ten minutes into the contest set the tone for what was an all-around awful evening for the team that’s already dead last in the NHL.

Tonight, things won’t get any easier as they welcome in the Pittsburgh Penguins to Little Caesars Arena. Of course, the Pens were recently bolstered by the return of superstar captain Sidney Crosby earlier this week, so you can bet Detroit will once again have their hands full.

Howard will have the chance to bounce back tonight. The former All-Star has struggled through his worst statistical season of his career so far this campaign, and he’ll definitely be looking for a better result than against New York. He’s slated to be a free-agent at year’s end, so an opportunity for next year either with Detroit or elsewhere is on the line for him based on his performance.

Here are tonight’s projected line combinations:

Bertuzzi - Larkin - Glendening
Fabbri - Filppula - Zadina
Erne - Nielsen - Helm
Smith - Ehn - Abdelkader

Nemeth - Green
Hronek - Daley
Bowey - Biega

Howard (starting)
Pickard
