Red Wings player named alt-captain of Team USA’s IIHF World Championships team

Another sterling season both on the ice and in the dressing room has earned this Red Wings skater an “A” for Team USA at the IIHF World Championships

Red Wings forward Dylan Larkin will be playing for Team USA in the International Ice Hockey Federation World Championships as one of the team’s alternative-captains.

The 20-year-old from Waterford, Michigan will be skating under familiar circumstances, Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill is in charge behind the bench for Team USA. Larkin has also played for Team USA at the World Championships before. Part of the bronze-medal winning squad from last season, Larkin has 20 games of World Championship experience.

Larkin was drafted 15th overall in the first round of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft by Detroit. He scored 17 goals and 15 assists for 31 points in 80 games with the Red Wings this season. The 6’1, 190 lbs left-shooting center has 40 goals and 77 points across 160 games with Detroit over the past two seasons.

He will join Blashill and fellow Red Wings Danny DeKeyser and Jimmy Howard as part of Team USA. Islander’s forward Brock Nelson is the other alternative captain, Coyotes defenseman Connor Murphy is the US captain.
