The Detroit Red Wings have finally made a decision that many of their fans have been hoping to see for the entirety of the 2018 - 2019 National Hockey League regular season.

According to an official announcement from the Red Wings organization head coach Jeff Blashill announced on Friday that the organization would be calling up top Red Wings prospect Filip Zadina in order for him to make his National Hockey League debut on Sunday. Given that there were many who expected Zadina to make the Red Wings' opening day roster this is one rookie debut that fans have been eagerly awaiting for quite some time now.

Zadina was of course Detroit's first round draft selection in the 2018 National Hockey League Entry Draft, selected 6th overall, after he well way down the draft board. Initial projections had him going as one of the top 2 picks in the draft but it appears that many of the teams did not like what they saw and therefore went in another direction with their respective moves. As a result Zadina not only fell right into the lap of Detroit Red Wings general manager Ken Holland, but also appeared to have earned himself some extra added motivation coming into training camp.

It was clear very early on that the young Red Wings' forward had a major chip on his shoulder because of what happened in the draft, and in fact he vowed to make the teams that passed on his regret their decisions. Specifically at the time Zadina's comments were directed to the Ottawa Senators and the Montreal Canadiens.

"I was telling my agent, if they will pass on me, I’m going to fill their nets with pucks," said Zadina at the time. "I want to prove to Detroit that they make a pretty good decision."

In spite of that chip on his shoulder though Zadina did not make the final cut during the Red Wings' training camp and as a result he was sent down to the American Hockey League to play with Detroit Red Wings' affiliate team the Grand Rapids Griffins. Since his time in the AHL Zadina has performed admirably recording 15 goals and 16 assists for a total of 31 points in 45 games and definitely seems to have the scoring touch that made him such a highly touted prospect in the first place.

Now however it will be time to deliver on the promise he has shown in his young career.
