Red Wings rookie Hicketts spins off Wilson, sends him flying into end boards

It’s been another tough season for Detroit Red Wings fans, but with young leaders like Dylan Larkin and Andreas Athanasiou establishing new career highs and with rookies like Filip Zadina, Dennis Cholowski and Michael Rasmussen emerging, there’s reason for optimist in Hockey Town.

One young player who has managed to spend his entire career to date as an “under the radar” type guy is defenseman Joe Hicketts. The 22 year old blueliner has not looked out of place in his nine games with the club this season and with 27 points in 61 games with the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins, there’s reason to believe the kid can stick in the NHL next season.

I mean… so long as he keeps making moves like this one from last night’s game against the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Red Wings will be hard pressed to send him down.

Check it out:

HEADS UP, Wilson!

Great heads up play by Hicketts, himself. Can’t wait to see what this kid can do full-time in the NHL as early as next season.
